One Line Review - "Yet Another Loud & Uninspiring Addition To The Singam Franchise "

S3 / Singam 3 Review By Afsal
Detailed Analysis
Singam 2 released in 2013 failed to match the thrills and adrenaline rush that the prequel offered with its mediocre storyline that had nothing new to boast of except for a couple of well-choreographed action sequences and a highly energetic performance by Suriya.Singam 3 too is no exception and follows the same formula of the second part with typical Hari style entertainment that has glorious loopholes spread through the narration.
Hari's way of storyyleling has always followed the same pattern- An unbeatable hero mouthing lengthy punch dialogs, half a dozen over-the-top action sequences,an item dance,a second heroine just for the sake of glamour quotient and a separate comedy track that most probably wont have any connection whatsoever with the major plot of the movie. This formula has proved more or less successful for the director, but for how long can he stick with this predictable style that's losing its grip on movie going audience as days pass by!
The brisk pace of the narration, fiery punch dialogs and Suriya's powerful cop act do act as saving graces here, but the repetitiveness of the storyline may hurt a smooth cinematic experience for even the fans of typical mass masala entertainers from Kollywood.
Undoubtedly the second half of the movie was slightly better on comparison with the first and the cat and mouse chase between Duraisingam and antagonist Vittal was presented well eventhough letdown big time by a mediocre climax that defies logic of all sorts. The comedy track was utterly disappointing and failed to evoke a single laugh with its over the top crude humor.
Suriya was at his energetic best and the athletic actor gave a powerful act with impressive dialogue delivery and mammoth screen presence during action sequences.Anushka had very less screen time offered and failed to pull out a notable performance.Thakoor Anoop Singh played the role of baddie convincingly eventhough his dialogue delivery lacked the much needed fieriness in it.Shruti Hassan was totally annoying right from the word go.Soori and his comedy track was horrible.Among others Radhika Sharatkumar and Sharat Saxena gave neat performances.
The VFX part was tacky and there were a good number of notable glitches particularly in the second half.Editing by V.T.Vijayan and T.S.Jay was mediocre.Abundance of drone sequences and shaky frames by Priyan made it difficult to focus on the screen after a point.
Harris Jayraj's songs were strictly average, but picturized well by Hari. The Background score was too loud and irritating to say the least.
Overall,Singam 3 is a highly predictable Hari style mass entertainer that fails to pack required punch to call it a thoroughly enjoyable fare.
Notable Positives
Massive Screen Presence Of Suriya , Fast-Paced Narration , Power-Packed Dialogues
Weak Links
Horrible Comedy Track , Annoying Performance by Shruti Hassan , Irritating BGM
Final Verdict::Singam 3 is at best a strictly passable masala entertainer if you can endure the horrible BGM,torturous humor and unintentionally funny conclusion to the story.WATCH IT AT YOUR OWN RISK!
