KL.10 Pathu Malayalam Movie Review By Afsal TouchRiver
"
A Mediocre Feel-Good Flick That Lacks A Credible Storyline"
Promising stills, hilarious teasers,well-cut trailer and good release strategy - Lock, stock and barrel touching the positive side,KL 10-10,from the trusted LJ Films Production House was undoubtedly the most anticipated movie among the Eid releases this year with everything in store for delivering a box-office winner. But considering all the hype it generated before the release,KL-10-10 falls bit short of the expectations,on the negative side with the major culprit being the lack of a convincing storyline that could connect with and engage the audience throughout the duration of the movie.
Two things are inevitable when we talk about Malappuram - Football & Food.Debutant director Muhsin Parari has given due importance to both of these and tried to exploit the cultural specialties of Malappuram to present the lovestory between Ahamed and Shadiya, played by Unni Mukundan and Chandini Sreedharan respectively. The lack of a proper,well-written screenplay turns the villain here with the romantic portions in particular being uninspired and fast-forced,the same being the case with the climax that was pretty ordinary and predicatable.
There were numerous instances where the director lost his grip in narration with the screenplay turning confusing and lifeless, going nowhere with an array of underdeveloped characters trying their best to keep the viewers glued to the seats with their hilarious one-liners and antics which triumphed and misfired at various situations.
The movie presents a good number of Malappuram flavored witty dialogues and funny sequences that managed to save the movie from sinking eventhough with partial success. The football related references and sequences were well-presented and the best part of the movie.
Coming to the performances,Unni Mukundan got a meaty role this time which he managed to pull off satisfactorily eventhough his dilaogue delivery still holds big room for improvement.Chandini Sreedharan as the lead girl was fit and did her part well after a disappointing debut in Ainthu Ainthu Ainthu alongside Bharath.Neeraj Madhav and Aju Vargheese shared good chemistry between each other and was successful in evoking laughs with their hilarious conversations.Sreenath bhasi was refreshing in the role of narrator and was impressive .Among others Ahmed Sidiqui,Mamukkoya,Aneesh.G.Menon etc were adequate.
Music & score by Biji Bal with the scent of north's culture was perfect for the whole sitting with the BGM in particular being refreshing and well-utilised.D.O.P by Vishnu Narayan was good.
Overall, KL 10-10 is a strictly passable feel-good movie that falls short of being a winner due to the lack of a convincing storyline.
